+ Who is it suitable for?
Skin needling is a minimally invasive treatment that improves the appearance of a range of skin concerns by boosting the body's natural collagen production which makes it suitable for most patients.
+ Who cannot have a skin needling?
- Active infection such as herpes
- Active severe acne
- Current skin cancer in treatment area
- Any patient who has has used oral isotretinon (Roaccutane) within 3-6 months prior to treatment
- Any patient who has burned skin, blistered skin, irritated skin, or sensitive skin in any of the areas being treated
- Dermal filler within the last 2 weeks or wrinkle relaxer within the last week
- Any allergies should be discussed to ensure a safe treatment is recommended
+ What does it feel like?
Most patients experience slight discomfort in more boney areas like the forehead, it just feels a bit scratchy. A slight sunburn like sensation can be felt immediately after treatment, this subsides within a few hours.
+ How many treatments are required?
Depending on the concerns being addressed, we recommended to start with a course of 4-6 skin needling sessions spaced out at 4-6 weekly intervals. Skin needling is a safe treatment to be done ongoing.
+ How long do results last for?
Results can be seen for 6-12 months following a course of treatments, although this depends on the concerns being addressed.
+ Are results immediate?
Usually patients will start to see visible results within 4-6 weeks.
+ Is there any downtime?
There is minimal downtime post treatment, localised redness may be experienced 24-48 hours post treatment.
+ What should I do before my appointment?
- Avoid sun exposure for 1 week prior to appointment
- Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, blood thinners and fish oil 7 days prior, if possible to minimise bruising risk
- Avoid waxing and hair removal creams 24-48 hours prior
- Avoid any retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, hydroquinone and benzoyl peroxide products 7 days prior to treatment
- If you have a history of cold sores, we recommend oral antiviral to prevent an outbreak
- Arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment to complete forms
- Remove makeup prior, if possible
+ What is my post treatment care?
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 5-7 days
- Avoid makeup until the following day
- Keep the skin hydrated with moisturiser
- Avoid active skincare for 7 days
- Avoid exercise for 24 hours
